Courier General Conditions


PICK-UP TIME

We will endeavor to make our best attempt to pickup as fast as possible from the time you place your call. For outgoing orders this would take approximately 15 to 20 minutes depending on the service level chosen. Delivery times don’t include the pickup time.

 

INTOWN DELIVERY TIMES

Overnight:       By 5:00 p.m. next business day

Regular:           5 hours

3 Hours:           3 hours

Rush:                2 hours

Super:              1 to 1.5 hours depending on distance and time of day

 

Delivery times only valid for in town shipments. Delivery times above are not valid for out of town shipments.

Time commitments can not be guaranteed before 9:30 am or after 2:30 pm due to heavy rush hour conditions. This does not affect the priority of your delivery and pricing will be as set out on your initial service agreement. Services can’t be downgraded during the heavy traffic times once the delivery is completed.

 

CUT-OFF TIME

Overnight:         2:00 p.m.

Regular:            12 Noon

3 Hours:            2:00 p.m.

Rush:                 3:00 p.m.

Super:                4:00 p.m.

After Hours:     Call to arrange within office hours.

 

Service levels will be measured from 9 a.m. next business day for any orders called in or placed after the cutoff time unless the order is upgraded to a higher level for delivery that day.

 

CUBIC WEIGHT:

Length (ins.) X Width (ins.) X Height (ins.) / 166 = Cubic Weight in lbs.

 

If using the metric system where the dimensions are in cm. then use a factor of 6000 instead of 166 in the calculation of cubic weight

above.

 

HATCHBACK CHARGES: 

Applicable when any one of the following criteria is met:

 

1) Shipment weighs 125 to 199 lbs.

2) Parcels weighing 50 to 65 lbs. and not satisfying the vehicle charge criteria below.

 

VEHICLE CHARGES: 

Applicable when any one of the following criteria is met:

 

1) If shipper specifically requests a van.

2) Pieces over 64 lbs. and not meeting the hatchback criteria.

3) Pieces over 48” long.

4) Total order weight (actual or cube) between 199 to 399 lbs. per consignee. Minivan: 199-299 lbs. Full Size: 300-399 lbs.

5) O/S or bulky items too large for a standard courier car.

 

WRONG ADDRESS or CANCELLATION

$10.00 Fee Minimum Charge. Wrong address charges may be different, if at M.E.C. Express discretion, traveling to the correct address warrants undue extra time due to distance or order size. Different charges may apply if cancellation occurs after the driver reaches the pickup point.

 

FREIGHT COLLECT SHIPMENTS

All shipments are considered pre-paid unless otherwise stated at the time order is placed by phone. Collect shipments will be charged at the current tariff rate plus $5.00. Collect shipments not paid within 30 days will be re-invoiced to the consignor for payment.

 

PACKAGING

All shipments must be properly packaged and labeled, including special markings as applicable (e.g. FRAGILE, FREEZABLE, etc.). Both the freight and the bill of lading must bear this information. M.E.C. assumes no liability for loss, damage, or delay due to improper packaging marking. In addition, M.E.C. Express Ltd. assumes no liability whatsoever for goods not packaged or for any concealed damages. Any shipments sent out or received damaged must be clearly marked as such and with a legible printed name on bill of lading at the time of shipping or receiving and reported immediately to M.E.C. Express Ltd., failing which M.E.C. Express Ltd. will assume no responsibility. M.E.C. Express Ltd. reserves the right to decline any shipment at any time it warrants so.

 

CARGO INSURANCE

Maximum liability is based on a calculation of $1.50 per pound to a $50.00 maximum, unless a higher valuation is declared. Declared valuation over $1.50 per pound will be charged at 3.5% of valuation. Maximum coverage is $5,000 per bill of lading. This liability applies to damaged and/or missing portion of shipments. M.E.C. Express Ltd. shall not be liable for any special, incidental, or consequential damages arising from any claims.

 

AUDITED WEIGHT HANDLING FEE

A minimum surcharge of $10.00 will be imposed for shipments where the shipper’s original declared weight is less than the actual audited weight.

 

P.O.D. ( PROOF OF DELIVERY) FEE

A scanned copy of the actual bill of lading can be provided for $5.00. However, PODs for shipments less than 90 days old will remain free. This will be effective January 1, 2017.

 

FUEL SURCHARGE                  

A FSC fuel surcharge, which will fluctuate with market conditions, will be added on all invoices to cover the high cost of transportation, which is then remitted to all our drivers.
